Itinerary and Hotels

Our route is carefully planned to ensure you arrive at your destination each day before sundown and enjoy your luxurious accommodation, from old colonial buildings and palaces to more modern five-star retreats with state of the art facilities. Here you will be able to recharge your batteries for the challenges of the day to come. We also have frequent rest days, to allow you to look after your cars and explore the sights.

imageStart of Rally - Udaipur
We stay for three nights at the fairytale Lake Palace in Udaipur. Enjoy a Cocktail Party to get to know the other participants and celebrate our departure at the Grand Rally Dinner. The cars will be displayed in the Museum.     arrowmore

imageDay 1 - Udaipur to Jodphur
The Rally departs, flagged off from the City Palace. Our route to Jodphur goes past the vast Jain Temple at Ranankpur.     arrowmore

imageDay 2 - Jodphur to Gajner
Visit the Fort in Jodphur before heading to Gajner, where we stay at the Gajner Palace at an oasis on the edge of the desert. One of the most tranquil locations in Rajasthan.     arrowmore

imageDay 3 - Gajner to Amritsar
An early start to arrive in Amritsar with plenty of time to visit the beautiful Golden Temple, the most sacred and holiest shrine of Sikhism.     arrowmore

imageDay 4 - Amritsar to Dharamsala
Drive to Dharamsala, the home of the exiled Dalai Llama and the Tibetan Government in Exile. We stay close to McLeod Ganj, 4km above the town of Dharamsala. You get your first view of the Himalaya mountain range somewhere along this road – a truly exhilarating sight.     arrowmore

imageDay 5 - Dharamsala to Shimla
"Discovered" by the British in 1819, Shimla soon became the favourite summer retreat of the Government, becoming the "Summer Capital" in 1864. We stay near the centre of town.     arrowmore

Day 6 - Rest Day in Shimla
A day to look after your car, enjoy the comfort of the Cecil Hotel, and explore Shimla.     arrowmore

imageDay 7 - Shimla to Rishikesh
Rishikesh is where the Beatles famously found enlightenment and George found the Sitar. Still magical, our hotel is perched high above the old town with views across the Ganges.     arrowmore

imageDay 8 - Rishikesh to Corbett National Park
From mountains to jungle, as we head along the river out of Rishikesh and into the National Park.     arrowmore

Day 9 - Rest Day in Corbett National Park
Head into the jungle by jeep or elephant to look for all kinds of animals including the ellusive tiger!     arrowmore

imageDay 10 - Corbett to Royal Bardia National Park
We cross the border into Nepal and stay in a comfortable tented lodge in the national park.     arrowmore

imageDay 11 - Royal Bardia to Pokhara
With views of the seven peaks of Anapurna, Pokhara is one of the most tranquil and enervating places on the journey. The hotel is only accessible by punt.     arrowmore

Day 12 - Rest Day in Pokhara
Enjoy the tranquility (and shopping!) in Pokhara.     arrowmore

We head along the valley into Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.     arrowmore

Day 14 - Rest Day in Kathmandu
A day off to explore this fascinating city.     arrowmore

imageDay 15 - Kathmandu to Koshi Tappu
A very long drive today, with glimpses of Everest on the road if we are lucky, and down to the Mahindra Highway in the valley.     arrowmore

imageDay 16 - Koshi Tappu to Darjeeling
We leave Nepal and head back into India. Once off the main road the drive is through tea plantations and then a steep climb on the back roads to Darjeeling.     arrowmore

Day 17 - Rest Day in Darjeeling
A rest day in Darjeeling to see the sights and maybe take a trip on the famous Toy Train.     arrowmore

imageDay 18 - Darjeeling to Phuntsholing
The road goes to Kalimpong, another smaller hill station, and then winds its way down the hills and onto the plains.     arrowmore

imageDay 19 - Phuntsholing to Paro
The road starts climbing up into the mountains and we have enjoy our first day in Bhutan.     arrowmore

imageDay 20 - Paro to Thimphu
It is a short drive to Thimpu, the country's capital, so you have plenty of time to explore Paro in the morning.     arrowmore

Day 21 - Rest Day in Thimpu
A rest day to explore Thimpu.     arrowmore

imageDay 22 - Thimpu to Trongsa
A very early start to catch the best views of the mountains at Dochu La (3140m) marked by 108 stupas then onto Trongsa.     arrowmore

imageDay 23 - Trongsa to Mongor
We continue the dramatic drive east from Trongsa to Mongar, through hills and sheer mountain valleys.     arrowmore

imageDay 24 - Mongor to Guwahati
A long drive today down to the border and back into India to Guwahati, on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra river.     arrowmore

imageDay 25 - Guwahati to Sylhet
We cross into Bangladesh and arrive at Sylhet.     arrowmore

imageDay 26 - Sylhet to Dhaka
We arrive at Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, a city of constant energy and activity.     arrowmore

Day 27 - Rest Day in Dhaka
A day off to explore this fascinating city.     arrowmore

From Dhaka we head down to Jessore, near the border with India.     arrowmore

imageDay 29 - Jessore to Calcutta
Over 5000 kilometres later we arrive in Calcutta! We stay at the wonderful Grand Hotel, right in the centre of the city.     arrowmore

A couple of days in Calcutta gives you time to deliver your car to the dock, explore the city, relax - and celebrate your achievement at the Grand End of Rally Dinner!     arrowmore
