Day 9 - Rest Day in Corbett National Park
Today is a chance for you to explore the jungle on an early morning or afternoon safari, by jeep or more peacefully riding on top of an elephant.
This is a wonderful place to relax by the pool, or go with Laxmi the elephant when she heads down to the river for a swim!
It is also very worthwhile visiting the Corbett Foundation which has its headquarters here. They run programmes aimed at protecting the last few remaining tigers, from poachers and as a result of loss of livestock by predators in local villages.
The scheme is run jointly with WWF - India who provide funds for assistance to owners whose cattle have been predated by wild animals and The Corbett Foundation which bears the operational costs. They also help humans injured by wild animals as well as the families of those killed in accidental encounters with wild animals. The Foundation also undertakes research projects related with human - animal conflict situations.
