Koshi Tappu offers the experience of low-impact but comfortable camping in the heart of the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. Large tents with plenty of room, comfortable beds and torches provided. This national park is twitchers heaven – there are over 450 different kinds of bird here – and you can go for a walk through the village or to the river to watch the sun set. We eat dinner outside under the stars and get up early the next day for the long drive into India.
The Wildlife Reserve which lies on the flood plain of the Sapta-Koshi - one of the three main tributaries of the Ganges. The reserve is roughly the shape of a rectangle 10 km wide and as long, it stretches south of the Sapta Koshi to the Indian border. It is set against the backdrop of Mount Makalu (8475m), the world's fifth highest mountain. The reserve is a good habitat for a variety of wildlife and supports the last surviving population of wild buffalo or arna as well as the nilgai (blue bull), chital (spotted deer), hog deer, and wild boar.
